From Phonics to Fluency: Practical Reading Instruction That Works
Presented by Mrs. Wordsmith
In this practical, classroom-first webinar, we’ll explore how to build confident, fluent readers by strengthening both word recognition and language comprehension processes. You’ll leave with clear, 'do it tomorrow' strategies for teaching phonics little-and-often, building fluency from the very start, and explicitly growing vocabulary and comprehension through rich talk, purposeful questioning, and punctuation-aware reading.
We’ll also zoom in on the pupils who need you most—children who struggle to retain graphemes, find blending difficult, or aren’t yet reading fluently—sharing quick diagnostic prompts and practical intervention moves like short daily boosters, increased “reading miles,” and targeted practice routines. Finally, we’ll cover high-impact guidance for students new to English and pupils with IEPs, plus simple ways to align parents with classroom approaches so support at home genuinely helps.
What You'll Gain:
A clear framework for effective reading instruction
Practical, ready-to-use routines for phonics, fluency and vocabulary
Strategies to support struggling, ELL and Special Education readers
Greater confidence in helping every child become a fluent, confident reader
